Wandering in new waters

After exploring the Columbia and willamette for many years I've decided to go further afield .the west coast and Canadian waters . With no electronics to speak of ,it's time to join the current,pun intended, century . Depth sounder ,knot meter and the ubiquitous chart plotter . 71 cal 29 . Limited budget And space aboard . The options seem a little daunting. Any thoughts and/ or recommendations? I of course have several dozen charts accrued over the years and have decent comm system complete with mmsi capabilities as well as a handheld . The Airmar DST transponder seems a good place to start ? Ray marine ,B&G and Garmin . Fair winds
