I took my cal 29 over to the only boat yard in town and had them do some work on the bottom replacing the rudder, prop shaft, prop, cutlass, bearing and bottom paint. I won't give you their name because I wouldn't recommend them to anybody. let's just say I spent over 10 grand and Supplied all my own parts.I'm not a happy camper. After several months, I was notified that the reversing gear shaft was cracked when asked for an estimate they said anywhere between three and $4000 plus parts. I decided I could do it myself a lot slower perhaps and a lot cheaper with the help of Moyer marine the job is almost complete. If anybody has any questions about reversing gear, I'd be more than happy to expand.

Sorry about your experiance. May I ask what part of the world do you keep your boat? There must be some good yards and boat mechanics out there, right?

The Columbia ,while lovely ,has limited facilities for Boat repair . Doing one's homework and keeping in mind the law of supply and demand . The more work you can safely do yourself the better . This will be filed under a lesson well learned .
