I was down at the boat today getting things ready for a summer trip. The weather is perfect, sunny and about seven knots of breeze. Not many people down at the marina just the occasional barking of a sea lion and the sound of the wind generators spinning in the wind . I had my head in the lazarette trying to readjust the fenders that I store there when it sounded like one of the wind generators threw a blade. When I pulled my head out there were bees. Lots and lots of bees!

I dove down below and started closing all the hatches as quickly as I could, but the main hatch was sitting in the aft section of the cockpit. I draped one of the cockpit cushions over the opening and called the marina office from the cabin. Peering out of the ports I could see the bees were starting to congregate on the dock box next to my boat.

The Intrepid Marina manager himself came down to see what he could do but was chased off by the bees.

Luckily he came back and was able to scare them off of the dock box, so they started to swarm on my bow pulpit.

The marina manager called me and said we'll just have to wait it out. Sure enough he was right and a half an hour later the bees have moved on. Happy summer all.

Wow, what an experience! Daniel was over working on our boat and missed the whole thing! Glad they decided to move on quickly.

No stings that I'm aware of, but the bees were bouncing off the marina manager and myself. I went back down to the boat today and unfortunately the bees have set up permanent housekeeping inside the dock box they swarmed on yesterday. Massive amounts of bees going in and out of the lock hole.

Beekeepers will come out and take the bees away. Do some asking around. We had a swarm in a tree, a low branch, a few years ago. The beekeeper came out and removed them all, and sent me a bottle of homey afterward.
