Leda was the final L-36 built. Some compare it to a wood Cal-40 as they look similar. Leda has won every race from San Francisco to San Diego according to the present caretaker David. Leda has an almost new Yanmar 3 cyclinder and a new Ballenger mast. The only thing I know to be wrong with it is the mast has not been installed after the dismasting. David had a blood clot in his leg and lost it so he can no longer sail. The boat was his dads and he has sailed on it his entire life and just wants it to find a good home. This boat is very fast. I raced against it for many years and the only L-36 in the fleet that could come close was of course Papoose, mine. But as David points out, I have no stove, no doors on anything, and large openings in bulkheads to lighten it. Leda has a stove and covers on the storage and such and is much more civilized but she beat me constantly until I got my new mast Ballenger mast.

Leda has been well cared for. It has fancy sails, carbon spinnaker pole and stuff like that. I don't have all the details but the boat is very competitive.

There are some historic photos on my website

Here is a shot of three L-36s at the start of the Jessica's cup one year.

He needs to sell it and I believe any offer would be accepted. It needs a good home but it will take some effort to get the mast in and it may need the rigging wires as well.

I hope she finds a good home. Mr. Lapworth gave us good boats. My sweet Cal 20 lies on her mooring not too far from her cousins, a Cal 25 and 39. They are the boats that get sailed most often in the little fleet there.
