Air filter on a Cal 2-34

Greetings All,
I have a 1975 Cal 2-34 with a Westerbeke engine and am searching for an air filter replacement which seems to be some sort of dinosaur that no longer exists. It's my understanding that the air filter has not been replaced for 15 years as no one has known where to find one or what to clean it with. I've been told that soaking it in anything will kill it and blowing it out with any sort of pressurized unit will blow it apart.
Seeking suggestions to get Sea Jewel's engine up and running and clean.

Hi Joe,
My engine in my 1978 34-III just says Westerbeke 30. It has the V drive. Is that the info you're looking for? From what I can tell, they either came with 2:1 short profile sailing gear or the Paragon V drive.

Hi all,
Was curious if this was ever resolved. I have a '77 westerbeke w30 and am now looking for an air filter as well.
Found a receipt for a Napa filter that I believe is on there now but that one is no longer available and no cross from them. Of course neither is the westy p/n. May try to rig a k&n if there is no other option but have yet to find one that was close. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,
Sean

On some of these older diesels people have been taking off the air cleaners and replacing them with paper cone filters similar to the K& N. If you measure the throttle body diameter and go online there are multiple diameters to choose from. Definitely not name brands but they will serve the purpose. The one thing to look for is if you have a oil breather tube connected to the air cleaner. This is the crankcase ventilation. Depending on the model of engine you may need to install a inline PCV valve and connect the tubing to the base of the filter. If no one has found a direct replacement at least this is a alternative. Good luck!

I appreciate the response and it appears adaptation is the course that remains. One of the joys of owning an antique. At least our registration is cheap.
